SSRCE Assessment Update: April 30, 2020

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your incredible work. Learning at home is difficult and we realize this is not a normal school year for teachers or families. Our learning and life challenges have been compounded by the recent tragic events in our province.

As we learn and teach during this pandemic, educators have adjusted their approach. They have turned their lessons and assignments to focus on key curriculum outcomes. Teachers have been responsive to individual students and circumstances and have been creative and student focussed in their ability to change learning activities and assignments.

No student will be penalized because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Teachers, principals and all education staff will continue to reach out and support students and families to the best of their ability.

Students in Grades Primary to 8 will receive a Term 2 report card by mid-May. These report cards will be shared electronically through the student GNSPES accounts. They will also be emailed to the parent email addresses on file at each school.  If the electronic option is not available, schools will be in contact with you to make other arrangements.

Students in Grade 9 will receive a comment on their progress not a grade by mid-May. Students in Grades 10 to 12 will receive an interim grade that will be shared with students and families and will be communicated through PowerSchool no later than May 14, 2020.

For more infomration regarding the assessment of your child, please reach out to your Principal, Teacher or visit - https://www.ednet.ns.ca/learning_at_home

Stay safe and stay well,

SSRCE Update: School Closure- April 28, 2020

Good evening,

Today, Premier Stephen McNeil announced that all public schools in Nova Scotia will remain closed until at least Tuesday, May 19. You can read the news release here: https://novascotia.ca/news/release/?id=20200428005

These are challenging times for everyone.  We know that you are trying to support the learning needs of your children and this can be an overwhelming task.  We are truly grateful for all you’re doing for our students.

Learning during this pandemic is not meant to replicate school. If this is too much for your family to handle at this time, please reach out to your child’s teacher/principal to discuss. No child will be left behind because of this extended closure.

Remember that you are not alone and if you need support, please reach out. You can contact the SSRCE at 902-543-2468 or 1-888-252-2217.

Take care of yourself and your family.

Stay well,

Paul Ash, Regional Executive Director
